The major objective of this course is to develop a deeper understanding of the key topics in cost/managerial accounting and their management control implications. The selected topics to be covered include costing systems, cost-volume-profit analysis, control and performance evaluation in decentralized organizations. This course is intended for students who wish to deepen their understanding of cost management concepts and their impact to an organization's decision-making.
Course Design
The course is designed as a senior accounting elective whose content parallels that of graduate-level accounting. Simply put: a student who takes this course doesn't need to re-learn the concepts in a different way should they choose to pursue their CPA and/or business master's degree.
Videos
Below are lecture-style videos organized by section and topic. These represent one half of the first "block" of the course visual presented above. Similar to a traditional class, these lectures are meant to act as the foundation for each cost management topic in this course. From there students are expected to progress through the visual to apply, synthesize and practice the material to obtain proficiency.
The goal for this course is for learners to see a connection between the academic content and their ability to solve problems in their lives outside of school. We have used concepts in this course to both organize personal budgets and lead several multi-million dollar projects. Knowledge is power.
